I was first introduced to Reiki about 2 years ago. I had a shoulder injury sustained during my martial art days. Although it was set by the physician, I can still feel a slight pain during cold rainy days.

Because the pain comes and goes, medication did not really worked for me. Neither did I want to go for a shoulder surgery to fix the problem.

I tried acupuncture treatment and it helped to a certain level. Then one day, a friend of mine from Hawaii asked me to try Reiki. Back then, I have never heard of Reiki before.

As it turns out, Reiki is a form of alternative treatment that utilizes the technique of palm healing. It is an art that was developed by Mikao Usui back in the early 1900.

I was intrigued by the idea and gave the treatment a shot. At the centre, a woman Reiki practitioner placed her palms near my shoulder. She wasn’t touching my shoulder and her hands were a few inches from it.

After a few minutes, I felt a warm tingling sensation on my shoulder. The feeling started on the skin and it radiates into my muscles. It was weird and I could not understand it.

My shoulder does feel better after the treatment and the results were pretty good. The pain became less and after a couple more treatments, it pretty much went away. I was really amazed.

Learning The Art of Reiki

Because of my personal experience with Reiki, I wanted to learn more about this mysterious art. As it turns out, learning Reiki is not a simple matter.

There is the traditional Japanese Reiki and the Western Reiki. There are also 3 forms of degrees which are the First, Second and Master / Teacher degree one can attain. A person wishing to become a Reiki Master has to be mentored by another Master / Teacher.

Does Reiki works? From my own experience, I have felt its healing properties personally.

Learning Reiki from an online program may yield different results for different people. It depends very much on our own level of understanding.

Generally, I found Judith Conroy’s program practical and effective at the same time. Am I a Reiki Master right now? Far from it…I have still much to learn.
